Since 2020 I have been interested in creative visible mending, especially of knitwear.
Mending a piece of clothing prolongs its life, and reduces waste. Some mends can be done almost invisibly, but there’s joy in a mend that draws attention to itself with bold colour or different textures. I view this kind of mending as an act of care and creativity.

Before: my father’s jumper, held together by several well-worn dark grey mend made by my grandmother.
After: both sleeves repaired in a mossy green and blue yarn, incorporating some of my grandmother’s original mending.
